Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center (CS-HHC), in acknowledging the significant gift and the meaningful impact it will have in New Haven and the region, is recognizing the Yale New Haven Health gift with the naming of the lobby in the Recovery & Wellness Center.

“We know unmet behavioral health care needs have increased demands on hospitals and health systems across the continuum of care, which is why these types of strategic partnerships are so important,” said Christopher O’Connor, CEO of Yale New Haven Health. “Yale New Haven Health is proud to support the work of Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center as it addresses critical behavioral health needs with this integrated care model in our community.”

Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center, Connecticut’s first community health center and among the nation’s leaders, saw more than 60,000 patients – the largest number in its 55-year history - last year, and more than 414,000 patient visits, reflecting the increasing need for health care access and health equity in the region and state. CS-HHC provides integrated medical, dental and behavioral health services throughout the Greater New Haven area and the Lower Naugatuck Valley.

Yale New Haven Health (YNHHS), the largest and most comprehensive healthcare system in Connecticut, is recognized for advanced clinical care, quality, service, cost effectiveness and commitment to improving the health status of the communities it serves.

YNHHS includes five hospitals – Bridgeport, Greenwich, Lawrence + Memorial, Westerly and Yale New Haven hospitals, several specialty networks and Northeast Medical Group, a non-profit medical foundation with several hundred community-based and hospital-employed physicians. YNHHS is affiliated with Yale University and Yale Medicine, the clinical practice of the Yale School of Medicine and the largest academic multi-specialty practice in New England. Nationally-ranked Yale New Haven Hospital is the primary teaching hospital of Yale School of Medicine.

“We are tremendously grateful to Yale New Haven Health for this unprecedented level of support, and deeply appreciate the dedication of their visionary leadership and extraordinary professionals,” said Michael R. Taylor, CEO of Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center.  “We have all experienced the acute need for integrated medical and behavioral health services, exacerbated by the pandemic, and share an unwavering commitment to address health care needs comprehensively and equitably.”

The Recovery & Wellness Center (RWC), adjacent to the South Central Rehabilitation Center (SCRC) in New Haven, will provide stigma-free holistic care, offering a comprehensive array of services including partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient treatment, primary medical, and dental care, and a short-term therapeutic living environment for individuals battling substance use and co-occurring mental health issues. It will be one of the most comprehensive behavioral health and addiction services centers in South Central Connecticut.  The RWC will house 52 therapeutic shelter beds, 40 for men and 12 for women, and support hundreds more on an outpatient basis on this campus.

The Yale New Haven Health gift was announced during an event hosted at the home of philanthropists and community leaders Barbara and Michael Schaffer in New Haven on December 12, attended by community leaders and the leadership of Yale New Haven Health and Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center and the Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center Foundation.
