PRESS RELEASE This Therapeutic Art Initiative aims to enhance patient and staff experience and community well-being by infusing art into healthcare spaces. New Haven, CT — Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center (CS-HHC), a federally qualified health center and leading provider of primary and behavioral healthcare services, is proud to announce the launch of its newest phase of the HeART of Healing Therapeutic Arts Initiative , a project that integrates art into the healthcare environment to foster spaces of hope, care, and positive energy for patients, visitors, and staff alike. This work was supported by American Rescue Plan funding from the City of New Haven’s Neighborhood Economic Opportunity Challenge. The artwork was created by local New Haven artists. These artists, Ricardo Gutierrez, Katro Storm, Christopher Ferguson, Michael DeAngelo, Sydney Bell and Alana Ladson —were commissioned to create new artwork or to provide artwork for CS-HHC locations, which includes the newly constructed Recovery & Wellness Center to transform the corridors and public spaces into vibrant, welcoming areas that inspire reflection and healing. "We are thrilled to launch the third phase of the HeART of Healing initiative which reflects our belief in fostering well-being and connection. We are deeply grateful for the funding and support that allows us to continue this meaningful work, creating spaces that inspire hope and nurture recovery." – CS-HHC CEO Michael Taylor HeART of Healing is centered on the transformative power of art, with a focus on themes of freedom, wellness, faith, diversity, and love. Each participating artist has shared their story of how art has impacted their personal journey, with the collective vision of using creative expression to give back. The collection embodies a wide range of art styles and mediums. In addition to the contributions of these talented artists, the project also includes a special memorial wall honoring a beloved CS-HHC employee who passed away. The memorial will serve as a meaningful tribute to the legacy and impact of the staff member’s time serving the CS-HHC community. Going beyond art installations within the health center, the project also included community engagement activities through shared creative experiences. The center is updating its website gallery to feature the new artists, along with their personal reflections.
